Taking the business continuity programme to a corporate leadership role

Abstract
The paper discusses a process to raise the awareness and value of your continuity programme to higher levels by leveraging existing data. It gives examples of how to utilise the structure of the Business Impact Analysis tool to develop an enterprise level of information capture, and then utilise that data to generate an enterprise level ‘group think’ which results in incorporation of business continuity as a part of the business-as-usual model.

Ira Messer has over 30 years’ total involvement with various levels of information technology, from leading programming teams to relational database design before moving into the business continuity area in 1989. Since then, he has been working for financial and communications firms focused on the continued development of business continuity programmes encompassing all areas from Data Centre hardware, alternative operation strategies, reconstructing electronic trading floors, crisis management and telecommunications. He is currently a member of the Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery team at Verizon Wireless, which oversees the company’s efforts for both disaster recovery and response as well as forward planning for business resiliency.
